ALASKA - WHITTIER

Whittier is at the head of the Passage Canal and on the west side of Prince William Sound.
The scenery along the way was picturesque.

The only way in and out of this sleepy town is through a single lane tunnel, which is about 2.5 miles long. Cars share the tunnel with trains so computers dictate the schedule for driving through. Cars traveling to Whittier enter every half hour. Those leaving Whittier enter the tunnel on the hour. You can drive through between the hours of 5:30 AM and 11:00 PM. The tunnel doors are actually closed while the tunnel is shut down. There is someone on duty to open the doors for passage in case of emergency situations.

The population is about 200 people; 75% of them live in this building. Need to check that schedule for the tunnel.

ALASKA A Day At The Wildlife Conservation Center

Another day in paradise included a visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife.  You know I love dogs and cows and other things on four legs.  I was mesmerized by the wildlife here.  But first we had to get there.

I took so many pictures of animals.  It was very difficult not putting them all in this post. Don't worry...I didn't!
